Neurodevelopmental outcome of children with congenital hypothyroidism: relationship with the time of initiation of treatment

Background: Congenital hypothyroidism (CH) is one of the leading causes of preventable mental retardation in children. Normal neurological development can be achieved by early and effective treatment. The aim of the study was to assess neuro-developmental status of children with congenital hypothyroidism who were on treatment with oral levothyroxine and compare neurodevelopmental outcome in relation to time of initiation of treatment.

Analytical study of intrauterine fetal death cases and associated maternal conditions

Introduction: Intrauterine fetal death is an important indicator of maternal and perinatal health of a given population. This study was undertaken to study the maternal and fetal factors associated with intrauterine fetal death. Materials and Methods: This was a retrospective single center study. The details of complaints atadmission, obstetrics history, menstrual history, examination findings, per vaginal examination findings, mode of delivery and fetal outcomes, placental examination, condition of cord and investigation reports were recorded.

Spontaneous gastric rupture in pregnant women in 36th week of pregnancy

The case of young primigravida pregnant woman with spontaneous gastric rupture in perinatal period was reported. Rapid obstetric intervention during caesarean section made possible the survival of the neonatant. Prompt surgical laparotomy was performed with excision necrosis part of the bottom of stomach The wall was repaired and it have the positive therapeutic effect. Authors indicat on diagnostic trebles, the way of obstetric and surgical treatment and complications in postoperative course.

Biological activities of the pulp of deutarium microcarpum fruit

Deutarium microcarpum is an edible wild fruit that has a high content of nutrients and bioactive compounds compared to that ofcertainsdomestic fruits. Inspiteits virtues, this fruit is still underexploited and undervalued by the nutraceutical industry due to little knowledge about it. The aim of this work is to study the biological properties of the pulp of Detarium microcarpum fruit. The bioactive coompounds and the in vitro antioxidant activity of the pulp of the fruit were determined.

Peritonitis by perforation of a paracardial diverticulum: report of a rare case

The Gastric diverticulum is a rare disease, is a pouch protruding from the gastric wall. Usually gastric diverticulum is detected incidentally by gastrointestinal study, when the gastric diverticulum has symptoms surgical resection is recommended being open or laparoscopic resection with excellent results. There is no medical therapy for this disease; however, the use of PPIs can improve some symptoms.

Anterosuperior horizontal reconstruction of cystic defect with titanium mesh and xenograft. clinical case and literature review

The problem of uncorrected refractive error among school children in southern india

A cross sectional study was conducted among children between 5-14 years of age attending schools in Cuddalore district, Tamil Nadu, India to find out the prevalence of refractive error among them. A total of 660 students were taken up for study and relevant information was collected in a pre-designed and pretested questionnaire. Children were first screened in their respective schools and those with VA<6/6 were taken for further examination to Out Patient Department of Ophthalmology, Rajah Muthiah Medical College and Hospital. Data was tabulated in MS Excel 2011 and analyzed by SPSS 20.

Study on bacteriological analysis of dacryocystitis

Objective: The aim of the study was to isolate, identify and determine antibiotic susceptibility pattern of bacterial isolates found in cases of dacryocystitis. Materials and Methods: Prospective study of 60 patients with dacryocystitis attending OPD services of Rajah Muthiah Medical College & Hospital, Annamalai University from October 2018 to September 2019. Results: Samples were collected from 60 patients presenting with acute and chronic dacryocystitis.

A review of wound myiasis in oro facial region: a retrospective study

Compromised health and hygiene can lead to many complications and one among them is orofacial wound myiasis. Myiasis is the invasion of living tissues by larvae of flies. A ten cases of traumatic orofacial wound myiasis by larvae of Musca Domesticus and treated by manual removal of larvae is reviewed. One year follow up showed no evidence of recurrence. We conclude that early management of orofacial wound myiasis with terpentine oil along with removal of myiasis and debridement is good treatment modalities
