The pharmacological activities of various extracts from terminalia arjuna bark: a review

Medicinal plants have been a main source of therapeutic agents from ancient time to cure diseases. Terminalia arjuna (T. arjuna) is one of the most accepted and beneficial medicinal plants in indigenous system of medicine for the treatment of various critical diseases. This comprehensive review provides various aspects of its ethno-medical, phyto-chemical, pharmacognostical, pharmacological and clinical significance to different diseases particularly in cardiovascular conditions. The plant has a good safety outline when used in combination with other conventional drugs.

Lipid profile in children with juvenile idiopathic arthritis in active and inactive state of disease

Background: Dyslipidemia is a feature of Juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA) and may act as a fertile soil for future cardiovascular morbidity due to pro-atherogenic lipid profile that may run in parallel with inflammation. Controlling the inflammation with adequate treatment may normalize the lipid profile to less atherogenic.
Objectives: To assess and compare the lipid profile in active and inactive state of disease and to determine the relationship of lipid profile with disease duration.

Infants gut microbiome: current knowledge, challenges and future directions

The acquisition and development of the infant microbiome plays a key role in healthy host-microbiome symbiosis. The neonatal and infancy periods are most important stages in the establishment of the intestinal microbial community. There are many maternal factors plays a major role in acquiring the balanced gut microbiota during birth. Moreover, continuous acquisition of nascent microbiome is a relatively dynamic process influenced by breastfeeding practices, weaning to solid food antibiotics and other practices.

Will training help improve knowledge of healthcare workers on biomedical waste management?

Introduction: The Ministry of Health and Family welfare in India laid down the new Biomedical Waste Management (BMW) guidelines in 2016. This was a major milestone marked to reduce environmental pollution and encourage recycling of wastes which are non-biodegradable. These guidelines also ensure safe transport of biomedical waste by means of decontamination at user end before transport to final disposal site. The major importance in healthcare facilities were the changes made to segregation protocols.

Postmenopausal state –risk factors for metabolic syndrome

There is clustering of cardiometabolic risk factors like physical inactivity, obesity, poor dietary factors, hypertension, insulin resistance, diabetes, dyslipidemia,& hypothyroidism in postmenopausal women, which has major impact on development of cardiovascular diseases(CVD) like hypertension, coronaryarterydisease, stroke& heart failure.
Menopause is actually another independent risk factor. Most of the effects are due to deficiency of estrogen making these women vulnerable to the hazards of CVD. Aging and these risk factors add to the burden of CVD.

Bacteriological profile and antimicrobial susceptibility patterns of bloodstream infections in a tertiary care hospital, aimsr, bathinda

Objectives: Blood stream infections have many serious consequences like shock, disseminated intravascular coagulation, multiple organ failure and even death. Blood culture is thus  necessary to identify causative agents of BSI’s and to choose an appropriate antimicrobial therapy. A cross-sectional study was conducted with an objective to determine the  bacteriological profile and antibiogram of organisms causing bloodstream infection for a period of 6 months from January 2019  to June 2019.

An analysis of effect of diet on semen parameters

Introduction: The importance of diet in determining the quality of human semen has been recognized for quite some time. Mediterranean’ dietary pattern derived by principal component analysis (PCA), which was characterized by high intakes of vegetables, fruits and seafood, was positively associated with total sperm count. With the above background, we conducted a study to know the adherence to Mediterranean diet and its effect on semen parameter.

Recurrent hereditary angioedema in children: case report

Hereditary angioedema (HAE) is a condition characterized by recurrent episodes of angioedema affecting the upper airway, bowel wall, or skin, which typically last two to four days. The angioedema of HAE is mediated by bradykinin and does not respond to epinephrine, antihistamines, or glucocorticoids. Instead, first-line therapies for HAE act by replacing the C1 inhibitor (C1INH) that is deficient or dysfunctional in this disease or by inhibiting the production or function of bradykinin. HAE affects men and women equally. There are no known racial predilections.

Hypertensive encephalopathy as a complication of acute diffuse glomerulonephritis post-stestrecoccal: case report in pediatrics

Acute diffuse glomerulonephritis has as a most frequent cause in pediatrics, infection by hemolytic β Streptococcus of Group A. Of patients with post-streptococcal glomerulonephritis, 95% evolve well with or without treatment and few present serious complications during the condition. The objective of this report is to provide a pediatric case of acute diffuse glomerulonephritis post infectious by Streptococcus pyogenes that evolved with complications of hypertensive encephalopathy.

Toxic epidermal necrolysis: a case report in pediatrics

Toxic Epidermal Necrolysis (Lyell’s syndrome) is a rare but very serious dermatological lesion. Treatment includes mainly the immediate suspension of the inducing drug and the precocious admission of the patient in a hospitalar facility with the capacity to provide intensive support care and to minimize the infectious risk, having also the conditions for the execution of surgical debridement and covering of the affected areas, that is to say in Burn Units.
