Phytochemical studies on an unexplored medicinal herb -indigofera viscosa lam. leaves

Species of Indigofera (Leguminosae) genus used as traditional medicines in different parts of the world, some of them are not studied for its chemical diversity. The present study was aimed to characterize the phytochemical potential of Indigofera Viscosa leaf. Nonpolar to polar solvents were used to successively extract the phytochemicals by using soxhlet apparatus. The extracts were tested for the secondary metabolite screening. Major bioactive compounds such as alkaloids, flavonoids, tannins, steroids, triterpenoids were detected from various extracts.
