Significance of cea in diabetes mellitus type 2

Background: Carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA) is a glycoprotein shown to be over expressed in adenocarcinomas especially of colorectal cancer. Recent research indicates that CEA-cell adhesion molecules (CEACAMs) play an important role in signal transduction and CEACAM1 is an important candidate molecule that may cause insulin resistance. It has also been reported that CEACAM1 interacts with other CEACAM protein family members like CEA (CEACAM5) and even both of them share the interacting genes.

The role of chromate reductase enzyme activity for effective reduction of chromium by pseudomonas aeruginosa

In the recent investigation, chromium tolerant strains were isolated from tannery effluent collected from Dindigul district. Six chromium tolerant strains were isolated from potassium dichromate amended Nutrient agar plates and their maximum tolerance were determined. The strain TE-2 and TE-6 exhibited maximum tolerance upto 500 ppb. The two chromium tolerant strains were identified as Bacillus subtilis and Pseudomonas aeruginosa on the basis of phenotypic and biochemical characteristics.

Ethics committee awareness amongst the medical teachers & post graduate residents in a medical college

Introduction: The Ethics Committees (EC) are established to safeguard the safety and rights of the subjects participating in a research study. No formal training about EC is given to the medical students in the undergraduate(UG) and postgraduate(PG) education as a part of curriculum.
Aim and Objectives: To study the awareness about the composition and functioning of EC amongst the faculty members and PG residents.

Itopride: a prokinetic agent with dual mode of action and positive safety profile for the management of upper gastrointestinal dysmotility disorders

Background: Patients with upper GI motility disorders encounter functional dyspepsia (FD) and gastroparesis as commonly occurring syndromes associated with gastric motor dysfunction. Aim: The aim of the present review is to provide a comprehensive view of the literature regarding the clinical efficacy and safety profile of itopride in the treatment of upper GI dysmotility disorders such as FD and gastroparesis. Methods: A literature search was performed using electronic databases like Pubmed/Medline to identify relevant articles from 1998 to 2014.

The misleading superadded tuberculous infection of the mastectomy scar masquerading the scar recurrence and chronicles of treatment: an interesting case report

Introduction: Superadded tuberculosis infection in post mastectomy scar recurrence is very uncommon. Differentiating scar infection of TB from tumour recurrence remains a clinical challenge and needs a high degree of clinical suspicion, meticulous investigation for active tubercular bacilli and through histopathological examination to detect viable malignant cells.

A comparative analysis of functional outcome and pain in tennis elbow patients treated with autologous blood injection and platelet rich plasma injection

Introduction: Lateral epicondylitis (Tennis elbow) is myotendinosis occurring at common extensor origin due to repetitive overuse of extensor muscles of the wrist. New treatment options include PRP and autologous blood injection. This study is designed to compare these two novel methods of treatment of lateral epicondylitis.

Aim- The aim of this study is to compare the functional outcome and pain in patients with tennis elbow treated with autologous blood injection and platelet rich plasma injection.

A 13-year-old female with hemolacria and hemoptysis

Hematidrosis is an exceptionally rare disease that was associated with religious beliefs, high blood pressure, menses, stress and systemic disease. This disease has been described as a stigmata, which is a term used by Christians to explain body marks, sores, pain, and bleeding in locations consistent with the crucifixion wounds of Jesus Christ. These wounds are typically on the hands, wrists, and feet. However, pathophysiology and etiology are still largely unknown.

Assessment of quality of sleep in psychiatric patients using psqi scale- role of clinical pharmacist

Background: Insomnia is defined as the complaint of difficulty falling asleep, staying asleep or non-restorative sleep. DSM-IV criteria for primary insomnia if the duration is >1month.It causes clinically significant distress or impairment. It does not occur exclusively during the course of a mental disorder. Insomnia is the most commonly observed in co-morbid patients with psychiatric conditions.
Aim: To improve quality of sleep in psychiatric patients with sleep disturbances by providing non-pharmacological support to the patients attending psychiatry.
Objectives:

Inhibitory effects of aqueous pericarp extract of punica granatum on in vitro protein glycoxidation and advanced glycation end products

Objectives: In this study, we evaluated the antioxidant potential of aqueous pericarp extract of Punica granatum (APPG) using different model systems.
Methods: To establish the link between glycation and oxidation processes, we evaluated the extract for its in vitro radical scavenging against superoxide, hydroxyl, hydrogen peroxide, nitric oxide, ferric radical and ABTS+ radical and antiglycation activities like the inhibitory activities on bovine serum albumin (BSA) and as well as protein oxidation markers including protein carbonyl formation (PCO).

Attitudes of patients about the importance of psychological intervention in the process of in vitro fertilization

Introduction: According to available data, 20% of population is faced with the problem of sterility, which represents a very stressful experience for couples who want to have posterity. The presented diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, fear and uncertainty are only some of the problems that couples who have started the treatment are faced with, which strongly implies the necessity of psychological support and intervention in order to overcome them.
