Risk factors for amputations in people with type 2 diabetes mellitus

Introduction: The objective is to determine the main risk factors for the development of amputations in people with DM2. Material and Methods: A case-control study was carried out with 134 cases (people with DM2, with amputation in the pelvic limb) and 134 controls (people with DM2, without amputation in the pelvic limb). The association of variables was analyzed by Odds Ratio and a multivariate analysis model with logistic regression.

Helicobacter pylori –a powerful risk factor in perforating the peptic ulcer disease.

Introduction: Peptic ulcer disease, a common disease encountered in surgical practice. Relationship between the peptic ulcer and H. pylori is well established, but not clear with its major complications viz gastro duodenal perforation and bleeding. Aim: To find out the prevalence of H. pylori in perforated peptic ulcer disease patients. Methodology: All patients with perforated peptic ulcer who undergone emergency laparotomy were studied. Biopsies were taken from perforation margin and sent for detecting for H. pylori.

A study on trend of hormone receptor & her-2/neu expression in breast cancer

Background: Breast Cancer, the most common malignancy causing mortality in women, has its uniqueness in expressing Hormone Receptors - Estrogen and Progesterone Receptors & HER – 2/neu Receptor. These receptors play a key role in prognosis of the disease by affecting the disease progression and deciding the mode of treatment. The aim of this study was to analyze the prevalence of hormone receptor status & HER-2/neu Status in breast cancer.

Comparison of surgical site infection between delayed primary closure versus primary closure of wound in complicated appendicitis- a prospective study

Background: Acute appendicitis is the most common emergency surgical condition in the world, in which appendectomy is the standard treatment. In complicated appendicitis after an appendectomy, the method of wound closure has played a major role in surgical site infection. The study aimed to compare the delayed primary closure versus primary closure in patients with complicated appendicitis underwent emergency open appendectomy.

Clinical study on keloids

Background: Keloids form as a result of abnormal growth of scar tissue usually after trivial injury to the skin. The aim of the study is to identify clinical profile and risk factors, to find common site of occurrence of keloids in local population

Materials: The study population of 50 patients who had attended Surgery OPD and diagnosed as keloids whose history and clinical finding were studied.

Introduction: Hypertension is an major health related risk factor in India with major contribution to burden of disease and mortality .It contributes to 1.6 million deaths annually in India due to ischemic heart disease and stroke. 57% of deaths related to stroke and 24% of death are related to hypertension. Hypertension is one of the commonest  non communicable disease in India with an overall prevalence of  29.8% with a higher prevalence in urban areas. Although our understanding of pathophysiology of hypertension has increased, etiology remains hypothetical .
