Serum level of cluster of differentiation 72 in systemic lupus erythematosus patients and correlation with nephritis and disease activity (case control study)

Introduction: B cell receptor (BCR) -mediated signals are enhanced when CD72 expression is deficient on B cells in autoimmune diseases. The significance of soluble CD72 (sCD72) has not been well explained yet.
Methods: Soluble CD72 was analyzed in the serum of 37 Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) patients, 27 had lupus nephritis and 10 had no nephritis. Correlations between sCD72 and SLE disease activity index (SLEDAI) and other activity indices were assessed.

A rare case of fatal lactic acidoisis and hepatitis with tenofovir and lamivudine

Nucleotide analogues have the potential to cause mitochondrial (mt) toxicity which may lead to the development of lactic acidosis (LA). Tenofovir, a nucleotide analogue-induced LA is extremely rare because of its low affinity for mt DNA polymerase. We report a rare case of tenofovir and lamivudine causing severe hepatitis and lactic acidosis, resulting in death in a seropositive patient with an identifiable risk factor of very low CD4 count.

Comparative study of pci using dynamic coronary roadmap vs pci without using dynamic coronary roadmap on radiation dose, contrast volume and fluoroscopy time.

PTCA is widely practiced and has risks, but major procedural complications are rare.

Context: Dynamic Coronary Roadmap (DCR, Philips Healthcare, The Netherlands) is a novel technology that allows the users to see a moving roadmap of the coronary anatomy displayed on top of live fluoroscopy to provide guidance during navigation and positioning of devices.

Comparison between microvascular free fibula & free radial forearm flap after major head & neck reconstruction

Oromandibular reconstruction continues to be a challenge for head and neck reconstructive surgeon. Composite resection after neoplasm results in large soft tissue and bony defects. Microvascular free flap reconstruction after a major head & neck oncological resection is getting popular because of better functional outcome, improved aesthetics & fairly higher success rate. Many techniques are available for functional and aesthetic restoration with osteocutaneous and faciocutaneous free flaps.

A case of carcinoma involving the hard palate and maxilla

Squamous cell carcinoma of the gingiva accounts for 6% to 10% of squamous cell carcinoma of the oral cavity. Due to the small thickness of the gingiva, the tumor easily infiltrates the underlying bone and can spread to the periodontal ligament, the floor of the oral cavity, the cheek or the palate. In edentulous jaws, the tumor may more easily invade the alveolar nerve or infiltrate the maxillary sinus.
