Outcome of cataract surgery in fuchs heterochromic uveitis

Purpose- Fuchs heterochromic uveitis is a less common but important cause of complicated cataract in the younger population. Though cataract surgery carries good visual outcomes, almost similar to other cataracts, a thorough pre-operative evaluation is important to understand and manage some of the rare and specific intra and post-operative complications. We present a series of 27 patients of Fuchs heterochromic uveitis who presented with complicated cataract and were managed with small incision cataract surgery with posterior chamber intra ocular lens implantation.

Isolated pre-auricular tags: a matter of concern

Preauricular cysts, pits, fissures, and sinuses are benign congenital malformations of the preauricular soft tissues first described by Van Heusinger in 1864. Preauricular pits or fissures are located near the front of the ear and mark the entrance to a sinus tract that may travel under the skin near the ear cartilage. These tracts are lined with squamous epithelium and may sequester to produce epithelial-lined subcutaneous cysts or may become infected, leading to cellulitis or abscess.

Etiology of haemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis (hlh) in a tertiary care centre

Introduction- Haemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis (HLH) is an aggressive and life threatening syndrome of highly stimulated but ineffective immune process. It can be triggered by a variety of events that disrupt immune homeostasis. Infection is a common trigger both in those with a genetic predisposition and in sporadic cases. Acquired HLH, with or without genetic disorders, may be due to infectious like bacterial, fungal, parasitic and viral or non-infectious etiologies such as malignancies, autoimmune disorders, and drugs.

Bacteriological profile and antibiogram of blood culture isolates in a tertiary care hospital in south india - a retrospective study

Blood stream infections range from self-limiting illnesses to life threatening sepsis that require prompt and aggressive antimicrobial treatment. The present study was undertaken to provide a base-line knowledge of the micro-organisms prevailing to a particular area and their antibiotic sensitivity pattern so as to prevent the injudicious usage of antibiotics. Objectives: To describe the profile and determine the antibiogram of  bacteriological isolates causing blood stream infections.

A study of bacterial flora in chronic suppurative otitis media in a rural based pediatric population

Background: The study was conducted to study the incidence of Chronic suppurative otitis media in different pediatric age groups, to find out the pathogens in those cases, to rule out foci of infections and eliminate the source of infections by medical/surgical treatment.
Materials and Methods: The study was conducted at Rajah Muthiah Medical College in department of ENT between 2013-2015, among 50 rural based children who attended the outpatient department. Ear swab was taken in aseptic conditions and sent for gram staining and culture and sensitivity.

Brain (cerebral) aneurysm

Intracranial aneurysms are relatively common, with a prevalence of approximately 4%. Un-ruptured aneurysms may cause symptoms mainly due to a mass effect, but the real danger is when an aneurysm ruptures, leading to a subarachnoid haemorrhage. Most aneurysms are asymptomatic and will not rupture, but they grow unpredictably and even small aneurysms carry a risk of rupture.
