Parent perception of teenagers technology use dysfunctions: implication for parenting

An online activity has been associated with psychosocial dysfunctions among teenagers. These dysfunction leads to distress among the parents. The present study aims to assess the parent’s perception of dysfunctions associated with technology use among teenagers. 200 parents of the teenagers in the age of group of 13 to 17 years aged were assessed using survey methodology. Absence of monitoring of children online activities was present among 74% parents. The dysfunction were seen in academic (34.5%), sport (34.1%) and social gathering (44%). 64% parents experienced distress for the same. It has implications for development of psycho-educational module to help the parent to promote healthy use of technology among teenagers as well as coping behaviors to manage psychiatric distress.
