Acute onset fever characterizes multiple viral infections, dengue, malaria, enteric fever, leptospirosis, rickettsiosis, hanta-virus and Japanese encephalitis in tropical countries (1-3). It has been observed that diagnostic efforts in such fevers incur many unwarranted investigations and treatment by antimicrobials is frequently inappropriate (4). It was decided to adopt restrains and to evaluate outcome of such management in the cases presenting as outpatients with facility for hospitalization if necessary. The exercise aimed at deriving clues for good management practice.
